I got started after I had my first reconstructive knee surgery in 2010. After not being able to run for six months and being humbled by running 1/4 mile at a time, I realized how much I had taken it for granted. I had another knee surgery a year and a half later and before going into surgery I signed up for my first half marathon as a reminder to not take it for granted again.
I once met a woman who was a cancer survivor and explained how her treatment and illness had impacted her ability to breathe. I think of all the people who have limitations to running and some who so badly wish they could do it. I am blessed to be able to run. So I keep going for them, I take them with me on every run.
My greatest success is keeping a balance while pursuing my doctorate. I trained for marathons and half marathons through those five years and I never gave up what I enjoyed.
My ultimate goals is to qualify for Boston one day, and live a happy healthy life.
